A slight departure from my path to becoming a physician, I have begun the full time MBA program at The Paul Merage School of Business. The Paul Merage School of Business has been consistently ranked in the top 50 MBA programs in the country. My colleagues have various professional backgrounds and we all bring our experiences to the table while working together on projects both inside and outside the classroom. The flexibility that the business school offers an MD/MBA candidate has permitted me to pursue various healthcare related projects while completing my course work. I am confident this experience will enrich and broaden my future career as a physician.
With the school’s focus on both Healthcare, Non-Profit, and Information Technology, I hope to further develop skills and gain perspective and vision to effect change. From courses in healthcare policy and physician leadership, I will gain deeper understanding of the economic crisis and the changes that our healthcare system is undergoing in that context. The role of non-profit organizations is becoming increasingly important, so I have little doubt that learning about such organizations will be of benefit throughout my career as a healthcare provider. The experience of earning an MBA and an MD will expand my knowledge base and guide better decisions for my future community, workplace, and most of all, my patients.

The UC Irvine School of Medicine has a track record for training excellent clinicians. After going through third year rotations and having mentors that take personal interest in my learning, I believe that I have learned the basics necessary to become a competent clinician.
The progression that I have seen in myself from my first rotation on Pediatrics to this point has been the result of personal persistence and the guidance of my faculty mentors. The development of basic clinical skills such as reporting a good patient History and Physical in a concise and pertinent manner was one of the first major lessons learned at UC Irvine. Building on this, some influential mentors pushed me beyond simple history taking to competence in clinical planning and decision making. The close knit community at the UC Irvine School of Medicine is one that fosters clinical excellence both by example and teaching.
